MAO SUGIYAMA
Japanese performance artist and activist, Mao Sugiyama, cooked genitals on March 31, 2012 in order to promote asexuality and gender equality. The artist cooked and served the genitals with mushrooms and parsley to the public. Out of 70 people who came, only 5 ate the genitals. Later, Sugiyama and three other people were charged by the Japanese authorities for indecent exposure.I believe that Sugiyama went beyond the norm. He purposely cooked real genitals and served to his guests. One question in mind, WHY? There are much better things to consume rather than human genitals. I find it extremely disturbing researching Sugiyama. In my point of view, it is absurd and unethical. However, in terms of using the body, Sugiyama can be categorized as one of the successful artists who has gone beyond experimenting the body on edge.
